day 52 (week 8, day 3)
Published June 23rd, 2008 in reflectRead Romans 5:6-8. Ask Jesus, Why?? Examples?
Lord, it is easy to consider doing a good thing for someone who has done a good thing. I am willing to die for a good thing. But the idea of you submitting to death for bad people (for me) is beyond my understanding and spiritual maturity. I am thankful you did but I’m still learning what that means - for me and those I (in my humanity) would consider less than deserving. Amen.

Romans 5:5 talks about the agape love of God. That self-giving, unconditional love…agape
is a love by choice and an act of the will unlike romantic philos love which is more of a selfish love of chemistry, attraction and chance. God loves us in our unclean, sinful state…we don’t
have to earn his love its just freely given. And we are to use our wills to actively love our
fellow humanity in like manner…because if i love you the way God loves you then i won’t steal from you or kill you or tell lies about you or in anyway knowingly cause you harm. Now obviously
God is perfect and we are not so we will fall short…but it is the mark we must strive toward.
Well said.
